About This Dive Site

A wreck off Sabang

Capt’n Gregg’s chart describes Alma Jane as an upright wreck off Sabang Beach. Both that operator and Scandi Divers’ September 2020 account date its deliberate sinking to 2003. Scandi places the wreck at about 30 m. These accounts give useful context for discussing a wreck dive, but do not establish its present structural condition.

Capt’n Gregg’s classifies the dive as advanced. Its metric depth row gives 25–30 m, although the accompanying feet conversion is inconsistent. The earlier listing’s 22 m minimum has not been corroborated in this review. Treat the operator’s figures as a described dive profile, not a surveyed boundary or a recommended depth.

Decks, hull and marine life

Action Divers distinguishes the upper decks at 26 m from the wreck resting at 30 m. Those are feature depths in its account, rather than interchangeable minimum and maximum limits for every outing. The same page reports a line connecting the surface to the wreck; its availability and condition need confirmation for the day.

Scandi’s 2020 account describes coral growth on the structure and snappers near the propeller shaft. Action reports batfish around the wreck, together with sweetlips, rabbitfish and lionfish. These accounts suggest both the overall wreck shape and smaller subjects around the structure as reasons to consider the site, without establishing what will be visible on a particular visit.

Casalay’s named Alma Jane section describes an upright cargo vessel on sand, with pufferfish reported beneath the hull and camouflaged scorpionfish along its exterior. Looking around the outside and entering an opening are different propositions; the presence of marine life inside a wreck is not a reason to assume access is suitable.

Construction and the retained mast

Asia Divers’ February 2020 article describes Alma Jane as a cargo vessel built from steel and wood. It attributes the deliberate sinking in March 2003 to the Puerto Galera Dive Association and reports that the main mast was retained. Those details help explain the wreck’s original form and artificial-reef purpose. They remain a historical operator account, not confirmation that the mast or other structures retain the same condition today.

Before booking

Ask which parts of the wreck the planned route visits, whether it remains outside the structure, and what experience the operator requires. Current access, visibility and the condition of openings need a local briefing. The historical account’s comments about exploring inside are not a safety assessment for a present-day visit.

Evidence limits

Historical fish reports are not guaranteed encounters. Exact vessel dimensions, the exact sinking day, water-temperature ranges and a universal certification prerequisite are not established here. This review has not verified or changed the existing map position.

Habitat described in the 2020 account

Asia Divers' February 2020 article reports moray eels, gorgonian sea fans and sea whips in Alma Jane's interior spaces. This adds specific habitat detail to the historical coral-growth account. It is not a current inspection, confirmation that those subjects remain present, or a reason to enter the wreck.
