About This Dive Site
Bikanayos Rock and the Pacanayas name
Bikanayos Rock is a named El Nido dive location whose published descriptions use several spellings. PADI’s El Nido guide explicitly calls Bikanayos Rock Picanayas. Aquanaut Dive Center describes Pacanayas in northwestern Bacuit Bay and also uses Picanayas and Bicanayos. These accounts support the name connection, but do not independently confirm the precise dive route at this map point.
Reported reef and diving conditions
Aquanaut describes a reef with a roughly circular layout, coral gardens and a wall descending toward sand. Its account mentions table corals and reports animals including mantis shrimps, scorpionfish, barracuda, trevally and turtles. These are operator-reported possibilities, not guaranteed sightings or a verified species survey.
The operator lists a 6–24 m profile, moderate-to-strong current and frequent surge, recommending experience. By contrast, El Nido Paradise’s Pacanayas entry describes a submerged reef at 8–15 m and labels it suitable for all levels. Those profiles may describe different routes or conditions; the available accounts do not resolve the difference. The shorter depth range should not be taken to mean that surge and current are absent.
Keep the route and map uncertainty in view
This record retains the OpenStreetMap scuba-diving point for Bikanayos Rock. The existing mapped feature centre is nearby, rather than proof of a second dive site. Neither point establishes an entry location or an underwater boundary. Aquanaut lists North Rock separately, so its restrictions, depths and marine-life descriptions should not be transferred to Bikanayos.
Confirm with a local operator whether their Pacanayas or Picanayas trip covers this named rock, which section they intend to dive, and how they assess current and surge. Ask for the planned depth, entry, exit and experience requirements before choosing the trip. Site-specific visibility, temperature and seasonal suitability remain unconfirmed; regional El Nido figures are not measurements for this route. This is a partial guide that preserves the reported reef character while leaving unresolved details explicit.
What PADI's El Nido guide adds
PADI's blog guide to El Nido, first published in May 2015 and updated in July 2026, lists Bikanayos Rock under Matinloc Island, which it places 20 kilometres west of El Nido, and says the site is also known as Picanayas. It names pelagics, barracudas, turtles and white-tip reef sharks as frequent visitors and says Matinloc has dive sites for all levels. That geography does not match Aquanaut's placement of Pacanayas Island in the northwest of Bacuit Bay, and the two accounts are not reconciled here. The shark and pelagic mentions are a publisher's summary rather than dated sightings.
Aquanaut's current site page, captured in October 2026, keeps the 6 to 24 metre profile with moderate to strong current and rates the site intermediate to advanced; it adds titan triggerfish and unicornfish to the animals listed above and says blacktip sharks can occasionally be encountered. El Nido Paradise's list, last modified in June 2018, still gives 8 to 15 metres for all levels. The depth, level and location differences remain open questions to settle with the operator running the trip.
