About This Dive Site

Coral Garden in Puerto Galera

This guide concerns the existing Puerto Galera Coral Garden listing. It is not the separately listed Coral Garden at Verde Island. Capt’n Gregg’s local chart describes coral heads, plate corals and staghorn coral at this reef.

The operator gives a 5–12 m profile. The earlier listing’s 20 m maximum has not been corroborated in this review. A described operator route does not establish the full reef’s boundaries, so exact depth limits remain uncertain.

Planning a reef visit

Use the destination and site name together when confirming your booking. Ask the operator which reef section is intended, what depth is planned, and how entry and pickup will work. Confirm suitability for your training and recent experience directly; the previous listing’s introductory-diving label is not a current operator commitment.

What this guide can establish

The terrain summary comes from one operator. It does not establish current coral condition, guaranteed wildlife encounters, visibility, temperature or a universal certification prerequisite. The existing map position has not been independently verified by this source review, and the operator’s stylised chart supplies no navigation coordinates.

A dated account of the shallow reef

In Tom Isgar’s Advanced Diver Magazine account of a January 2011 Puerto Galera visit, the Coral Gardens section describes coral heads separated by white sand, with plate corals, staghorn corals, barrel sponges and soft corals. The article credits Atlantis for its site descriptions: that general habitat account is not a separate independent survey by the author.

The credited description gives a 15–45 foot profile, approximately 4.6–13.7 metres, and reports reef fish around the corals and smaller subjects in sand and under outcrops. Its examples include anthias, parrotfish, damselfish, butterflyfish, gobies, lizardfish and shrimp. It allows for both an easy outing and a drift, rather than promising still water. Isgar separately describes his own sunny-morning dive, mostly at 15 feet, approximately 4.6 metres, photographing fish and corals with nearly natural light. That personal observation explains the shallow photographic appeal while remaining tied to his visit; it is not a present-day report of water clarity or reef health.

Similar names need a specific location

Dive Mindoro’s regional directory contains separate entries titled Coral Gardens and The Coral Garden, Mangroves. The first describes large coral heads on sand descending from the beach to about 10 metres; the second lists a 13-metre average and 20-metre maximum. The directory does not establish that those profiles describe the same reef section. This guide therefore does not transfer the Mangroves entry’s depths, wildlife or boat activity into the existing Coral Garden record. When arranging a visit, ask which named entry the operator means and identify the intended reef section together. The shared words in the names alone cannot resolve the older depth claim.
