no current or strong
Read source context
While the claim states 'mild' current, multiple sources, including the description itself, indicate that strong currents can sometimes occur, making it a fast drift dive. Another source notes that although conditions are normally calm, strong currents can sometimes occur, and the site is usually visited only when conditions are calm. One source states "no current" which directly contradicts "mild". This suggests that 'mild' is not consistently accurate and that stronger currents are a notable characteristic and potential hazard.

no current / strong currents can sometimes occur
Read source context
The refutation correctly identifies that while conditions are normally calm, strong currents can sometimes occur, making it a fast drift dive. One source also states 'no current' for Puntod, which directly contradicts 'mild' as a consistent descriptor. Therefore, 'mild' is not consistently accurate and stronger currents are a notable characteristic.

About This Dive Site
Confirm which Puntod route is intended
This listing uses Puntod, while the reviewed operators use Pungtod and Pungtud Wall. Philippine Fun Divers describes a wall and coral garden under Pungtud Wall. Seaquest has a separate Pungtod section on its Gak-ang and Pungtod page. The relationship between those named routes is not established precisely enough to treat every description as the same dive.
A shallow reef range and a wall range
Seaquest lists 2–20 m for Pungtod; Philippine Fun Divers gives 3–45 m for Pungtud Wall. These figures should remain attributed to their named routes rather than combined into a single verified range. Confirm the location, entry and planned section with the operator when comparing itineraries.
Reef condition needs a current account
Seaquest discusses damage to the reef in an undated account. That statement cannot establish today’s condition or a measured recovery trend. This guide therefore does not repeat the earlier claim of uniformly pristine coral. The same page’s neighboring Gak-ang description is not evidence of wildlife at Pungtod.
Identity and other gaps
The existing depth and current uncertainties remain unresolved. No coordinates or aliases are changed by this review. Ask whether the proposed outing visits the shallower reef, a wall route or another named section, and confirm access and conditions close to departure. A familiar spelling alone is not enough to establish identical boundaries.

What the named wall account describes
Philippine Fun Divers' Pungtud Wall description includes hard and soft coral gardens, anthias, raggy scorpionfish, ribbon eels and fusiliers. It describes a northwestward route with the wall on the diver's right, and sandy patches around 4 metres in its shallower section. The same account mentions small caves along the wall and possible currents toward the end of the dive. These are features and cautions attributed to that operator's route, not instructions to enter caves or assume the direction of today's current. Its suggested shallow return is not proof that every route under the Puntod name has the same exit.
Historical reef observations
Seaquest's separate Pungtod section recalls sponges and sea fans on the wall, table corals above and schooling juvenile parrotfish. It also lists smaller reef fish including clownfish, damselfish, Moorish idols, butterflyfish and angelfish. Read that account alongside its report of reef damage, rather than treating the older habitat description as a current health assessment. The page does not date its observations or quantify how much of the reef remains intact.
A Plongeur Baroudeur account published in June 2017 uses the label Pontod/Pungtud Wall, with Virgin Island in parentheses. Its named section describes a lively wall with snappers, fusiliers, damselfish, clownfish and parrotfish, plus frogfish and nudibranchs. This provides a dated visitor account of that named dive; it neither maps the route boundaries nor establishes that every sandbar excursion reaches the same reef.
