Sabang Point

About This Dive Site
A reef-and-point dive
Capt’n Gregg’s chart lists Sabang Point as reef-and-point terrain and mentions the possibility of night diving. That is a planning lead, not confirmation that a night outing is currently offered.
The operator’s 8–25 m profile differs from the old listing’s 5 m minimum. This review does not establish the shallowest point or the boundary of every route. Its Open Water label should not be interpreted as a statement that the entire depth range suits every certified diver.
Arranging the dive
Confirm the intended reef section, planned depth and expected conditions with the dive team. For a night outing, ask specifically about availability, experience requirements, equipment and meeting arrangements. No departure time, daily schedule or current access arrangement has been verified here.
Evidence limits
The terrain and night-dive references are single-source information. Current wildlife sightings, visibility, water temperature and the best season remain unverified. Existing coordinates are unchanged by this review; the operator’s illustrative chart is expressly unsuitable for navigation.
Reef life listed in the chart
Capt'n Gregg's Sabang Point entry lists snappers and sea fans alongside reef fish. The chart attributes its summary to public sources rather than a dated survey. These are subjects to discuss with a guide, while current sightings and encounter frequency remain unverified.
Two different drifts over the same reef
The reef-and-point classification and night-diving reference above come from the operator chart. A separate visiting diver’s account describes the routes and habitats below; it does not confirm night-dive availability.
Michael McFadyen’s account of his 2023 Sabang trip describes two visits to Sabang Point. The outings travelled in opposite directions over broadly the same ground. He also experienced a change in current direction after moving shallower. That history makes the planned entry and pickup worth discussing together, rather than assuming the point always provides a drift in one direction.
His deeper observations came from sandy ground with scattered coral, around 22–27 m. Coral became more extensive around 18 m, with additional subjects in the shallows. These different habitats help explain why two dives carrying the same site name can offer different photographic opportunities. They also show why the whole outing cannot be described solely by a shallow starting depth.
What the visitor actually observed
The account records garden eels, pufferfish and turtles in the deeper area, followed by nudibranchs, flatworms and egg cowries around the reef. It mentions further turtle sightings near the shallower finish. These are observations from those visits; they do not demonstrate that a particular turtle lives at the site or that every group will encounter the same animals.
McFadyen also describes a tiny white pipefish, but the illustrative photograph accompanying that passage was taken at Olympic Point in Anilao. The photograph should therefore not be treated as an image of that animal at Sabang Point. For a photography outing, ask which subjects have actually been seen locally and how much of the proposed route will be over sand rather than coral.
