What the operator accounts describe
This guide covers the existing Verde Island Wall listing. Scandi Divers’ account dated 9 July 2015 describes an eastern reef under the combined heading Pinnacle/Drop Off. Its account warns that currents can move divers away from the wall or vertically. That is historical operator guidance, not a report of today’s conditions.
Capt’n Gregg’s dive-site chart lists Verde Island Drop-off and Verde Pinnacle separately. Its drop-off entry describes a ledge around 18 m, while the pinnacle entry describes a shallower starting point. These are descriptions of routes in the reef complex, not evidence of surveyed boundaries or a reason to count extra sites here. Confirm which route your operator means by “Verde Island.”
Planning a dive
Ask the dive team about the intended route, entry and pickup arrangements, expected current and the depth planned for your group. Do not treat the depth reached by the reef itself as a recommended diving depth. The operator should confirm whether the planned dive fits your training and recent experience.
What remains uncertain
This guide does not establish a universal certification requirement, current measurement, visibility forecast, temperature range or best month. Earlier numerical values are retained only as unverified historical listing information. The former wildlife list and encounter frequencies were not supported by site-specific evidence in this review; they are not sighting promises. Existing coordinates are unchanged by this description review.
Capt'n Gregg's logbook entries
Capt'n Gregg's dive-site chart, read on 8 October 2026, gives Verde Island Drop-off as entry 44, classifies it as Advanced, wall and drift, with strong current, and lists a recreational depth of 18-40m. It describes a vertical wall transitioning to a slope, with highlights of gorgonians, barrel sponges, jacks, tuna, barracuda and reef fish, and says a ledge at about 18 metres lets recreational divers move out along the top of a flat reef. For Verde Pinnacle, entry 45, it lists 5-40m, Advanced and strong current, and describes a surface-breaking pinnacle on the east side with gorgonian fans, sea snakes, frogfish and schooling pelagics. The chart says the Drop-off is roughly 40 minutes by speedboat from Sabang Beach in normal conditions and that Verde trips are planned as full-day outings with multiple dives when conditions allow.
Dive Mindoro and Caro Santamaria Ocean
Dive Mindoro's Verde Island Drop Off entry says the vertical wall descends to around 77m before transitioning into a gradual slope, with depths exceeding 100m in some areas, and that the depth and currents require advanced certification and experience. It lists anthias, sergeant majors, banded sea snakes, hawksbill turtles and warty frogfish among commonly spotted animals. A feature depth like this describes the wall, not a diving range. Caro Santamaria Ocean's Verde Island Passage article says Verde Island is roughly an hour by boat from Puerto Galera, that the signature sites are current-driven and suit advanced or experienced divers, and that the calmest seas and best visibility are generally from around November to May. Both pages promote the same eco-operator, so they may share a commercial origin, and the article is regional rather than specific to this wall. The one hour and 40 minute boat times come from different bases and are not reconciled here.
