About This Dive Site

What the operator accounts describe

Scandi Divers’ account dated 9 July 2015 describes Washing Machine as shallow canyons where tidal conditions can produce currents moving in different directions. The same historical account describes a quieter shallow dive under other conditions. It reserves the current-affected experience for experienced divers with a guide familiar with the site; this is not a forecast for a particular visit.

Capt’n Gregg’s chart describes canyons and swim-throughs and gives a 6–15 m profile. Its shallower account differs from the old listing’s maximum of 30 m. The sources reviewed do not establish a common route boundary, so neither number is treated here as a surveyed maximum for the entire site.

Planning a dive

Confirm the proposed route, planned depth, conditions and diver requirements directly with your operator. This guide does not recommend entering during a strong ebb tide to experience the site’s name. Tide selection, entry and recovery arrangements need a current local briefing. The old recommendation to use reef hooks is not retained as advice.

What remains uncertain

No reliable site-specific visibility forecast, water-temperature range, preferred month or universal certification prerequisite was established in this review. Historical numbers are labelled as unverified rather than presented as current conditions. Earlier species names and encounter frequencies lack reviewed site-specific support and are not promised sightings. Existing coordinates have not been newly verified or changed.

Depth and layout in other operator accounts

Capt'n Gregg's chart, read on 8 October 2026, lists Washing Machine as entry 46 with a depth of 6-15m, level Advanced for current handling, type drift and canyon, and strong current. It describes interlocking canyons and swim-throughs at about 15m and says the site is often best dived on slack tide. Dive Mindoro describes a series of seven shallow gullies with depths from 6m to 14m, which differs slightly from Capt'n Gregg's 15m. The two ranges are not reconciled here.

Conditions described by Dive Mindoro

Dive Mindoro says that during slack tide the canyons show large rocky coral formations, basket sponges, sea fans and siphon sponges, with tubeworms, sea squirts and feather stars, and that wrasses, parrotfish, eels and the black and white frogfish can be spotted. It says the site comes alive when the current is running, attracting schooling fish, tuna, trevallies and black and whitetip reef sharks, and that thousands of anthias gather. It says divers should have prior experience diving with currents and be guided by knowledgeable professionals, and that the site is not suitable for novices. The page also recommends gloves and reef hooks; this guide does not adopt that as advice, and any equipment or hook use should follow the operator's briefing. Scandi Divers' 2015 account likewise mentions schooling fish and occasionally pelagics such as tuna and reef sharks.
