About This Dive Site

A lake dive among limestone formations

The PADI site account, contributed by Neptune Dive Center, describes fresh water above salt water and submerged rock formations at Barracuda Lake. Its appeal is the unusual water layers and landscape, rather than a reef or wreck.

KISS Diving describes access over limestone after arriving at Coron Island. Ask your operator about the current access route, carrying equipment and assistance before booking; the physical transfer is part of this outing.

Understanding the reported conditions

KISS lists a maximum depth of 35 m. This is an operator’s site description, not a suggested dive depth. Both accounts describe warmer water below the surface layer, but their reported temperatures and layer boundaries should not be treated as a fixed profile for every visit.

The PADI account mentions a possible barracuda encounter. The name does not guarantee a sighting, and this review does not establish encounter frequency or a resident animal’s current presence.

Details to confirm

Confirm the planned depth, current access requirements, appropriate equipment and suitability with the team conducting your dive. This partial guide does not establish present fees, a universal certification requirement or a reliable year-round temperature range.

The landscape continues below the surface

MDI Divers describes limestone walls around the lake extending underwater. This helps explain why the rock shapes and contrasting water layers are central to the experience. Its account emphasizes the landscape rather than abundant wildlife; neither a lake name nor an operator's recollection confirms that a particular animal is present now.

Separate a description from a temperature forecast

MDI also describes a visible boundary between fresh and salt water, changing temperatures below it, and cooler water again near the bottom. These are attributed observations, not a measured profile for your visit. The account does not provide dated monitoring that would establish where each boundary will be on a particular day. Its clothing recommendation is not adopted here; discuss equipment and the intended profile with the operator.

An unusual lakebed

The same page describes fine, silty material at the bottom. That observation is distinct from its descriptions of the limestone walls. The guide does not endorse the source's suggestion of playing with the sediment or infer that a clear surface view guarantees clear conditions at every depth.

Small wildlife in a landscape-led dive

Rocksteady’s October 2019 site account reports rabbitfish, small catfish, shells and freshwater shrimp in the lake. These are historical operator observations, not a current inventory. They complement the rock formations and water layers without supporting a promise of barracuda encounters.

KISS estimates ten to fifteen minutes for the limestone climb while carrying dive equipment. That is its access-time estimate, separate from the boat crossing; it does not establish present trail conditions or assistance availability.
