About This Dive Site

Large rocks and overhangs

Capt’n Gregg’s chart describes Boulders as a site of large rock formations and overhangs. The operator gives roughly 23 m as its maximum depth and classifies the dive as advanced. Those are attributed operator descriptions, not a surveyed limit or a guarantee of conditions.

The shape of the rocks is the useful starting point for planning a visit. Ask the dive team which formations are on the intended route and whether the plan stays in open water around them. The presence of an overhang does not establish that entering beneath it is part of a suitable outing.

Arranging a visit

Confirm the planned depth, expected current, meeting point and pickup arrangements directly. The operator should explain how its route fits your training and recent experience. No fixed departure schedule or universal certification prerequisite is established here.

Evidence limits

The source names several groups of fish, but this guide does not promise sightings or encounter frequencies. Visibility, temperature, seasonality and the exact entry location remain unverified. No coordinates are inferred from the operator’s illustrative chart.

Fish associated with the overhangs

Capt'n Gregg's Boulders account describes batfish, groupers, sweetlips, pufferfish and juvenile fish sheltering around the overhangs. These attributed observations connect the rock formations with reported fish habitat. They do not establish present occupancy or identify every juvenile fish, and do not imply that entering an overhead space is appropriate.

A historical route across several depths

Michael McFadyen’s account of his 2023 visit describes a descent from shallow water along a steep slope to about 30 m. He encountered further large rocks during the return through approximately 24 m. That route extends deeper than the operator chart’s roughly 23 m reference. Neither account establishes that every Boulders dive follows the same ground, so confirm which profile the planned outing actually uses.

The rock formations were not confined to one deep stop: the account follows them back toward shallower habitat. This offers a useful distinction when discussing the dive with an operator. A plan centred on deeper formations and one concentrating on the shallows should not be assumed to provide the same subjects or require the same experience.

Small subjects among the larger scenery

McFadyen reports pygmy seahorses on a gorgonian during that visit. Elsewhere he observed a goby on a sea whip, shrimps associated with seastars and featherstars around the rocks. In shallower water, his observations included razorfish, a blue-spotted stingray and anemonefish. These historical sightings give examples of subjects to ask a local guide about, not a checklist guaranteed for the next dive.

Several photograph captions make tentative species identifications. The broader animal descriptions used here avoid converting those guesses into confirmed species records. Present occupancy of the gorgonian and the condition of individual coral or sponge growth remain unverified.
