Cervera Shoal

About This Dive Site
An offshore shoal on Pamilacan trips
Cervera Shoal is also presented as Snake Island by Bohol Divers Club. This is an underwater plateau, not a beach landing. Alona Divers describes it as an outing often combined with Pamilacan, and both operators discuss current as a practical consideration.
Depth figures differ
Alona Divers describes a top at 8 m but gives 9–30 m in its table. Bohol Divers Club lists 8–35 m. The disagreement and difference in scope remain visible here; the numbers should not be compressed into one verified minimum or maximum. Neither reviewed source supplies the previous numerical average of 18 m.
What to confirm before booking
Check that the proposed trip includes this offshore shoal, whether conditions permit the stop, and how the operator plans the descent and surface pickup. Bohol Divers Club reports banded sea snakes, while neither source establishes a reliable encounter probability. Published wildlife descriptions should not become guarantees.
Sources and remaining gaps

Life on the plateau
Alona Divers reports sea urchins across the top of the shoal, with small reef fish, some corals and bucket sponges. Its wildlife list also includes banded sea snakes, nudibranchs and white-eyed and starry moray eels. Bohol Divers Club mentions butterflyfish, morays, nudibranchs and bucket sponges alongside the sea snakes. These descriptions make the plateau and its smaller subjects part of the interest, rather than presenting the outing only as a search for a particular animal.
Bohol Divers Club makes its stop conditional on the current not being too strong. Alona Divers describes drift diving and explains that the shoal does not reach its stated safety-stop depth, so its usual outing involves a stop in open water and a surface marker. This is a practical distinction from a wall route that rises into a shallow reef. Discuss the operator’s descent, open-water stop and pickup arrangements for the group; the source’s numerical stop instructions are not adopted here as a universal procedure.
Operator context and a source contradiction
Alona Divers lists an approximate 30-minute banca transfer over 10.5 km from Alona Beach, describes the shoal as unsuitable for snorkeling, and identifies 10–15 m as the most interesting part of its route. It quotes 15–25 m visibility, a general range rather than a current reading. Its narrative says the reef is recovering from past dynamite fishing, while its table says it was not affected. That internal contradiction remains unresolved: this review cannot present either a verified damage history or a measured recovery trend. The two operators’ accounts are travel descriptions, not an ecological survey.
