About This Dive Site
A refrigeration wreck in Coron Bay
MDI Divers identifies Irako as a former refrigeration ship and describes an upright wreck with a main deck at about 34 m. Deck depth is a particular structural level; it is not an average depth for the whole site or a recommended dive profile.
Different reports of the bottom depth
MDI places the wreck at 40 m, Pirates Diving Resort reports a 43 m bottom and the Two Seasons Pawikan menu lists 42 m. These differing descriptions do not establish a settled maximum for this listing. The exact limit remains unresolved, and the reported figures are presented with their source context.
Plan around the intended area
Confirm which part of the exterior is planned, how the boat operation handles pickup and what experience is required for the day's conditions. Published accounts of machinery and internal compartments do not establish that those spaces are suitable or accessible for your dive.
Limits of this guide
This partial review does not establish current visibility, structural condition, encounter rates or a universal certification requirement. It also does not turn a source's generic recommendation for nitrox into a gas plan. Ask the operator to explain the intended depth and conditions before booking.
What the ship was built to do
The refrigeration role distinguishes Irako from the tanker and cargo wrecks nearby. Dive3D's historical account describes food-storage and preparation facilities, including refrigeration equipment and a rice mill. These details explain why provision spaces and machinery feature in wreck descriptions. They do not confirm that individual appliances survive today or make the interior part of a standard guided outing.
Evidence from a particular dive
Dive3D dates its scan to 1 October 2025 and reports poor visibility during that visit. Its dive account separates a 28–35 m deck range from a 43 m bottom. The published model provides a visual record of the vessel, but its author's technical dive profile is not a recommendation for readers and is not reproduced as a plan here. The date makes this a specific observation rather than a promise about normal visibility.
Another source for the depth question
PADI's Irako page, credited to Neptune Dive Center, gives 45 m. That supports retaining 45 m as a reported figure, but does not settle the difference from the other published accounts. Neptune also reports schools of jacks around the mast and other fish near the top of the wreck. These are attributed wildlife observations without an encounter rate or an observation date, not a reason to assume a particular sighting during your visit.
Equipment named in the machine-shop account
Sangat Island Dive Resort describes a metal lathe and bench drill in Irako's machine-shop compartment. Those details distinguish workshop equipment from the refrigeration and food-preparation machinery in other accounts. They do not establish present visibility, structural condition or access to the compartment, and are not instructions for entering the wreck.
