About This Dive Site

A separate outing in northeast Busuanga

MDI Divers describes Kyokuzan Maru as an upright cargo wreck northeast of Busuanga. Pirates Diving Resort treats it as a separate excursion from the central Coron wreck sites. Confirm the departure location and transport arrangements rather than assuming it fits a standard Coron Bay boat itinerary.

Keep structural depths separate

MDI reports the hull at 42 m, the deck at 26–28 m and the wheelhouse at 22–24 m. Pirates lists a 40 m bottom. The exact maximum is marked disputed; wheelhouse and deck measurements do not describe the depth of the entire wreck.

What belongs to this wreck

MDI describes vehicle remains in a cargo hold, but its page also discusses Dimalanta, Diboyuyan and Rock Island reefs. Wildlife statements in those other sections are not evidence of sightings at Kyokuzan. This guide keeps those locations separate.

Details to confirm

Ask the operator which exterior areas are planned, the expected depth and the experience required. This partial review does not establish current visibility, structural condition or a dependable species list. Published overhead-route descriptions and gas recommendations are not treated as a plan for your dive.

Features in the operator's wreck account

MDI describes scattered china and exposed plumbing around the wheelhouse, as well as a vehicle chassis within a cargo hold. These reported remains help explain the wreck's former cargo and supply role. They do not establish that those objects remain visible today or that entering the hold forms part of an ordinary exterior dive.

Compare measurements before comparing itineraries

MDI gives the vessel's length as 136 m, while Pirates describes approximately 160–180 m. That is a substantial difference between published accounts and remains unresolved. Neither measurement is used here to infer a route, dive duration or a precise wreck boundary. Structural depth measurements also need to stay attached to the named part of the vessel.

Getting to the northern departure point

Pirates describes a road transfer to northern Busuanga followed by a local dive boat, whereas MDI gives a boat journey from Club Paradise. These are different departure arrangements, not conflicting travel times from one base. Ask which transfer is included, where the boat starts and whether the planned visit is specifically to Kyokuzan. The published examples do not confirm present transport availability.

The Dimalanta name and adjacent reef

MDI also calls Kyokuzan the “Dimalanta Wreck”, linking that local name to nearby Dimalanta Island. Its separate Dimalanta reef section describes a sloping reef with hard corals, including cabbage-shaped corals. This helps distinguish the wreck visit from a neighbouring reef outing when comparing itineraries. The reef description does not establish that a shallow alternative is included in a wreck booking or transfer its wildlife to the wreck.

The bay named in another operator account

Sangat Island Dive Resort places Kyokuzan Maru in Maricaban Bay, northeast of Busuanga, and describes an upright wreck on a sandy seabed. The named bay adds geographic context when discussing a northern departure. It is source-attributed locality information, not a newly verified coordinate or confirmation of current transport arrangements.

Boat traffic

Severity: Not yet documented

Earlier listing reports boat traffic. The specific condition and severity have not been corroborated in this source review; confirm the current briefing with the operator.

Decompression obligation

Severity: Not yet documented

An earlier listing asserted a decompression obligation. This source review does not establish a universal obligation, gas mixture or bottom time; these depend on the actual dive plan.

Depth

Severity: Not yet documented

Operator depth reports differ or describe distinct structural levels, as explained in the guide. Confirm the intended route and depth; this review does not establish a universal profile or severity.

Overhead environment

Severity: Not yet documented

Operator accounts describe interior passages or compartments. These descriptions do not establish current access, structural condition or suitability for entry; confirm the planned environment and required experience with the operator.
