About This Dive Site

Channel reef and drift terrain

Capt’n Gregg’s Puerto Galera chart describes Manila Channel as a reef-and-drift site with hard coral and a tide-dependent plan. This is a single operator’s description, not a live current report.

The chart gives an 8–21 m profile. The earlier Diveity listing gave 5–26 m without a public citation. This review has not established a common route boundary or a surveyed depth range, so those figures should not be read as a precise limit for the whole channel.

Questions for the dive team

Confirm the intended route, planned depth, entry and pickup arrangements before choosing the outing. Ask how the operator matches the plan to your training and recent experience. An Open Water label in a site chart does not establish that every possible route or condition is suitable for every diver.

Evidence limits

No independent current measurement, visibility forecast, water-temperature range or best-month assessment was established. This update does not verify the existing map position. The source chart expressly uses stylised positions and should not be used to derive a navigation point.

Small walls and distinct depth claims

Action Divers' Manila Channel page describes a flood-current drift past small walls and sloping reef, with soft and branching corals, sea fans, whip coral and basket sponges. It also reports a yacht farther into the channel at 22 metres. The page is internally inconsistent: its heading says a maximum of 18 metres, while the closing text says 24 metres. Those numbers should remain attached to their separate statements rather than being silently combined into a new verified range. The yacht is a reported feature, not confirmation of its present condition, access or inclusion in every booked dive.

A dated operator account

Asia Divers' February 20, 2019 article describes a rocky channel bottom used for searching for small subjects. It mentions a sloping reef and mini-wall with gorgonians and sponges, plus a small wreck where the operator reported frogfish. The article also recalls seeing five eagle rays on one occasion. That is a historical observation, not an encounter forecast. The article does not identify its small wreck sufficiently to establish that it is the yacht described by Action Divers; this guide does not merge the two features.

Casalay's named account adds a fibreglass wreck at 21 metres and describes two small walls near sand around 22 metres. Its published route changes direction with the tide. These are further operator descriptions, not surveyed feature identities or directions to navigate independently. Confirm which wreck, wall and reef section the proposed trip actually includes.
