Sardine Run

About This Dive Site
Sardine Run, Moalboal
This partial guide covers the sardine-viewing area off Panagsama Beach. Turtle Bay Dive Resort describes sardines along this shoreline, with tuna and jacks hunting nearby. Seaquest also identifies a large sardine school at its Sumisid house reef and describes beach access for house-reef dives. These are operator reports, not a promise that a school or predator will be present during your visit.
Plan around the shoreline and conditions
The schooling fish and the deeper coastal reef are different parts of the experience. An operator's suggested dive depth does not establish a fixed depth for the sardines or the maximum depth of this site. Confirm the meeting point, entry and exit, current conditions and a suitable route with your chosen operator.
What remains unverified
This review does not establish a measured average depth, a universal minimum certification, current fees or dependable visibility and temperature ranges. Ask locally about today's school location and access arrangements. Do not treat historical species lists as an encounter forecast.
A moving school beside the coastal reef
Neptune’s House Reef account places its section at the northern part of the sardine aggregation around Panagsama. It describes fish near the surface roughly 30 metres from shore; that is a reported horizontal distance, not the school’s depth or a fixed meeting point. The operator lists beach entry and describes the underlying reef as slope and wall. Its 5–15 metre interesting-depth band concerns the dive profile, not a requirement to descend that far to see the fish.
Neptune explains the tightly grouped school as protection against predators and describes the fish separating and gathering again. That behaviour makes the shape and position of the aggregation part of the experience, rather than a permanent underwater landmark. Its prose describes fewer corals in this plankton-rich section, while its information table gives a broader coral-and-marine-life list. Those statements are not a measured coral-cover assessment. The same table’s visibility and current figures are operator references without a dated measurement series, so they are not forecasts for the day of a visit.
A visitor’s account of the sardines
In a SCUBA magazine feature hosted by Magic Island, Simon Rogerson describes swimming along the Panagsama house reef toward the school. He reports milky visibility, a grouper and a jackfish testing its edge, and fish separating before gathering farther along the reef. He also observed freedivers approaching from above. These details describe his particular outing, not current crowd levels or guaranteed predators. The retained excerpt does not establish an exact visit date. His separate Pescador Island account should not be read as placing this Panagsama encounter offshore at the island.
