About This Dive Site

A named cave-and-reef site

Capt’n Gregg’s chart lists Shark Cave as a cave-and-reef site, gives a depth reference of 27 m and classifies the dive as advanced. That single depth reference does not establish an entry depth, an average or the full limits of the site.

The name alone is not evidence that sharks will be present. It also does not establish the geometry, accessibility or current condition of an overhead space. This guide provides a source-attributed site identity, not instructions for entering a cave.

Questions before booking

Ask the operator which feature its Shark Cave outing visits, whether the route remains outside the opening, and what depth and experience requirements apply. Confirm the meeting point, expected conditions and pickup arrangements before choosing the trip.

What remains unverified

Current wildlife sightings, visibility, temperature, seasonality and specific access restrictions have not been established by this source review. An advanced label is an operator classification rather than a universal qualification rule. The source chart’s stylised position must not be used as an entry or navigation point.

Wildlife beyond the site name

Capt'n Gregg's Shark Cave entry lists rays, turtles and sweetlips among its reef-life highlights. The chart summarises public-source reports without sighting dates. This gives a broader picture than the name alone, while establishing neither present animal encounters nor suitability for entering the cave.

A visitor distinguishes the opening from The Atoll

Michael McFadyen’s 2023 Shark Cave and The Atoll account describes two features visited during one outing. He calls Shark Cave a small overhang and reports no sharks there on that visit. The account then continues to a separate rock formation called The Atoll. The shared itinerary does not make the two names interchangeable, and an animal implied by a site name is not necessarily present.

His approach crossed sand with scattered coral. He describes another outing visiting the features in the opposite order when the current direction differed. That is historical route information, not a tide rule to follow. Ask whether the proposed trip visits Shark Cave alone or combines it with the separate rock, and whether the route remains outside the opening.

Terrain beyond the opening

Casalay’s Shark Cave entry describes ridges along a gradual slope with a rocky, sandy bottom. This places the named feature within a wider reef landscape rather than making cave entry the sole purpose of a visit.

McFadyen’s modest wildlife report is also useful context: he recorded nudibranchs and reef fish without a shark encounter. The attractive subjects on a particular outing may therefore be smaller reef life and terrain. Neither account is a present inspection of the overhang or a qualification to enter an overhead environment.
