A rocky reef feature
Capt’n Gregg’s chart describes The Atoll as a pinnacle-and-reef site with a large rock and overhangs. It classifies the outing as advanced and provides a depth reference of 33 m. That reference does not establish a minimum, average or surveyed maximum for the full site.
Use the terrain description to discuss the intended dive with the operator. Confirm which rock or reef section the name refers to, the depth planned for your group and whether the route remains in open water around the formations.
Before booking
Ask about current conditions, required experience, entry and pickup arrangements. A named site in an operator chart is not confirmation of a fixed schedule or that the same route is offered on every visit.
Source limitations
The chart’s wildlife list is not a current sighting report, and no encounter frequency is established. Visibility, water temperature, seasonal reliability and exact entry coordinates remain unverified. The name “The Atoll” is retained as the site’s name; this source review does not establish a geological classification.
Wildlife and coral listed for the rock
Capt'n Gregg's Atoll entry lists soft coral, lionfish, stingrays and sharks among the reported highlights. Its broad shark label does not identify a species. The chart compiles public-source descriptions; these are viewing interests rather than dated observations, encounter probabilities or evidence of current conditions.
A rock visited separately from Shark Cave
Michael McFadyen’s account of his 2023 Sabang trip describes The Atoll after a visit to the separate Shark Cave feature. He portrays a flat-topped rock rising from water deeper than 28 m to around 24 m, with another smaller rock nearby. The account mentions gorgonians, sea whips and sponges on these formations. This is a historical description of the feature, not evidence that The Atoll is a ring-shaped coral island.
His figures differ from Casalay’s Atoll description, which places the large rock between about 33 m and 20 m. The accounts do not explain whether the differences arise from measurement, route extent or the exact part of the formation. They should not be combined into an apparently surveyed depth range.
Two features do not mean a fixed itinerary
McFadyen describes a second outing visiting The Atoll before Shark Cave, reversing the earlier order when the current ran differently. His experience illustrates that the order and extent of a combined outing can change. It is not an instruction to use a particular tide or swim between the features independently.
Casalay also describes crevices and an overhang on the rock. Those details help a visitor ask whether the planned observation stays outside the formations. Neither that operator description nor the historical trip report establishes present structural stability or makes entering an overhead space part of an appropriate dive.
