Boatyard

About This Dive Site
A sandy site for a slow search
Action Divers describes Boatyard as a sandy area near Giant Clams, suited to looking closely at the bottom rather than following a dramatic wall. The operator mentions pipefish, seahorses and shrimps as things divers may look for; these are reported possibilities, not guaranteed sightings.
Confirm the planned area and depth
The operator lists a 20 m maximum and a novice-and-above skill label. Those references do not establish the depth or suitability of every route. Ask which section will be visited, how the dive starts and ends, and whether the conditions suit your experience.
What remains uncertain
The earlier 5–18 m range has not been reconciled with this account. Exact entry coordinates, current visibility, temperature and seasonal reliability are not established by the cited page. Keep the planned search area distinct from a separate Giant Clams visit.
The slope in the operator's account
Capt'n Gregg's Boatyard entry describes a gradual slope leading to a sandy bottom with sea sponges. That terrain detail adds context to the site's macro subjects. Its account also mentions old wrecks used as mooring anchors, but this does not verify a current descent point or authorize using any particular line.
Wreck fragments as a macro setting
Casalay’s muck-diving article describes Boatyard as a former shipyard with numerous wrecks on the seabed. Its emphasis is on searching around small recesses rather than touring a named intact vessel. The article does not identify those boats, date their loss or establish which pieces remain accessible today. This is useful context for choosing a close-up photography outing, but it does not turn Boatyard into a documented historical wreck tour.
For this style of photography, Casalay’s article advises neutral buoyancy and avoiding contact with the seabed so sediment is not stirred up. Those are general muck-diving practices, not evidence that a particular wreck fragment is stable or safe to approach.
UW360’s May 17, 2022 destination article names frogfish, seahorses, velvet ghost pipefish, cuttlefish and nudibranchs specifically under Boatyard. These common-name subjects broaden the earlier operator list. They are promotional viewing possibilities, not dated individual sightings or proof of particular species present on a future dive. Subjects described under the article’s other dive sites should not be added to Boatyard’s animal list.
Photographer Filip Staes’s account published April 26, 2015 separately names Boatyard and Giant Clams as sandy-bottom dives with small subjects that challenged his macro photography. His comparison with Lembeh describes the style of diving he experienced; it does not establish identical ecology or conditions between destinations. The firsthand account gives a dated photographic perspective while keeping the two local dive names distinct. His other photographs and descriptions of deeper wrecks and coral scenery concern different Puerto Galera sites.
