About This Dive Site

A macro-focused stop

Scandi Divers’ September 2020 article describes Giant Clams as a muck-diving location of interest to macro photographers. Its list of possible animals is a historical operator account, not a report of what is present now. No encounter frequency is established by that list.

Capt’n Gregg’s chart also names Giant Clams and gives a 6–16 m profile. That differs from the old listing’s 5–18 m range. The sources do not establish that both ranges describe the same route, so this guide does not turn them into an exact minimum or maximum.

Planning a visit

Ask the operator which part of the site is planned, the expected depth and conditions, and whether the outing suits your recent diving experience. Confirm the meeting point and arrangements directly; the site name alone does not identify an entry or pickup location.

What is still unknown

Current sightings, visibility, temperature, seasonal reliability and universal certification requirements have not been verified. The operator’s illustrative chart is not a navigation source, and no new map coordinates are inferred from it.

Subjects in the named chart entry

Capt'n Gregg's Giant Clams entry lists octopus as well as giant clams and coral among its public-source highlights. This gives a more specific viewing interest than a general shallow-reef description. The chart provides no dated count, animal locations or encounter rate, so present sightings remain unverified.

Clams and the deeper sand are different viewing areas

Marco Vincent's named Giant Clams account places the clams in approximately 5 metres of water and describes another area of interest on sand around 15 metres. Its heading gives a broader 3–15 metre profile. The account warns that disturbed sediment can quickly reduce visibility, a useful distinction from photographing subjects against a hard reef. Its examples include ghost pipefish, seahorses, shrimp, frogfish and cuttlefish; these are reported possibilities rather than an inventory verified for a future visit. The shallow clam area and deeper sand should therefore be discussed separately when choosing the intended outing.

Infinity Resort's Giant Clams section also describes a transition from shallow clams into a sandy, grassy muck habitat. It gives about 6 metres for the shallow starting area and reports some clams up to 1.5 metres across. That is an operator's size claim, not a recent measurement of an identified individual. Its night-diving description mentions mimic octopus and wonderpus emerging to hunt. Neither the animal sizes nor the nocturnal observations establish today's population or a reliable time to find particular animals. The accounts support looking beyond the conspicuous clams while leaving present sightings and precise route limits unresolved.
