A shallow wreck at Lusong

Sangat Island Dive Resort describes Lusong Gunboat in front of Lusong Island, with hard coral growing on the wreck. Pirates Diving Resort also places it by Lusong and lists a 12 m maximum depth.

Both accounts describe the stern reaching the surface at low tide. That is a tide-dependent observation, not a fixed minimum depth for the whole site. The 12 m maximum in those accounts differs from the Pawikan menu’s 14 m maximum. Tide, route and measurement differences are not resolved; confirm the planned depth locally.

Keep the wreck and nearby reefs distinct

Use the wreck’s name when confirming the itinerary. A trip mentioning a coral garden may include a separate reef stop; its conditions and identity should not automatically be transferred to this wreck.

Before your visit

Confirm whether the outing is snorkeling or scuba, which part of the exterior is planned and how boat pickup will work. Descriptions of shallow access do not establish that wreck entry is suitable. This review does not settle the vessel’s original identity, exact sinking history, current strength or present visibility. Reported coral cover is not an assessment of the wreck’s structural condition.

Depth reports differ

The Two Seasons Pawikan menu lists this wreck at 0–14 m, while the other operator accounts above report 12 m as the maximum. These are differing site descriptions, not interchangeable dive plans. The exact maximum is marked disputed; ask the operator conducting your dive to confirm the intended route and conditions.

Read the reef account separately

MDI Divers publishes the wreck and Lusong Coral Garden together, but gives the garden its own section. Its descriptions of a wall, a reef shelf and current-assisted snorkeling belong to that reef account. They do not establish the gunboat's current strength or an appropriate entry point. Confirm which of the two locations the booking includes.

Another depiction of the wreck

Dive3D presents a model of Lusong Gunboat and describes a roughly 25 m vessel lying at an angle on its side. Its page gives 10 m water depth, differing from the operator maxima already noted. No shared tidal reference or matching measurement boundary is provided, so this additional figure does not settle the depth dispute. The model page's shallow-water description is also not a current inspection of the hull.

Fish reported around the shallow hull

Rocksteady’s October 2019 site account reports anemonefish, wrasses, butterflyfish and angelfish around this wreck. These broad fish groups add detail to the coral-covered hull description without implying a species survey. The dated account does not establish current abundance or a guaranteed sighting.

Sangat's own vessel table gives a length of 30 m, rather than Dive3D's approximately 25 m description. The accounts do not explain their measurement methods or establish matching endpoints. Retain that disagreement when comparing wreck descriptions: neither number is a measured swimming distance or a recommended route through the hull.
