About This Dive Site
Keep the named routes distinct
Atlantis lists Monkey Beach in Puerto Galera. La Laguna Beach Club separates Monkey Beach from Deep Monkey Beach and Monkey Wreck. These entries should not be treated as one interchangeable dive.
Its Monkey Beach entry has an 18 m point reference. That is not an average or a full depth range, and the deeper references attached to the other names do not apply automatically.
Discuss the actual outing
Capt’n Gregg’s describes a coral slope under Monkey Beach. Ask the operator to identify the intended section and clarify whether a wreck visit is included. Agree the route, planned depth, experience requirements and pickup arrangements before choosing this dive.
Limits of this guide
The earlier 5–25 m range and beginner label are not verified for every possible route. Current visibility, temperature, conditions and wildlife encounters remain open questions. The retained maps support named locations, not precise entry coordinates or a navigation plan.
Two subjects named in the site chart
Capt'n Gregg's Monkey Beach entry includes mantis shrimp and fusiliers in its public-source wildlife summary. These add specific subjects to the coral-slope description without resolving the separate wreck identity. No observation dates or encounter rates are supplied, so their inclusion does not promise a sighting on a booked outing.
Coral garden and broken reef terrain
La Laguna Villas’ August 2023 Monkey Beach article places the coral garden on the Sinandigan promontory east of Sabang. It describes a slope from about 6 to 20 m, with hard and soft corals, crinoids and nudibranchs. Farther down, its account distinguishes ridges, overhangs and small cliff-like features from the upper coral garden. The article treats offshore Deep Monkey Beach separately, so its deeper terrain should not be folded into an ordinary Monkey Beach booking.
The same operator reports the remains of a six-metre fishing yacht on sand. That is a description of the wreck encountered on its route, not a resolved identity for every locally named Monkey wreck. Its reef-fish list includes anthias, damselfish, snappers, batfish, Moorish idols and gobies; around the wreck it mentions scorpionfish and nudibranchs. These reported habitats and subjects explain why the outing can include both a broader reef view and a slower search around small features.
Different bases and current descriptions
La Laguna Villas advertises a four-minute boat trip from its resort across Sabang Bay. Casalay instead quotes fifteen minutes from its own base and describes the slope levelling near 20 m. Those timings refer to different departure points. Casalay also describes jawfish in sandy holes and warns that currents can quickly accelerate a drift. The operators’ differing experience labels should therefore be read with their route and conditions, rather than selecting the least restrictive label as a universal rating.
