About This Dive Site

Tongo Point, Moalboal

Cebu Neptune describes Tongo Point as a Moalboal marine-park dive with a slope, wall, small caves and crevices. Its account highlights purple sea fans and shells, offering a more specific picture of the site than a general description of diving around Cebu.

What to look for

The retained Master Liveaboards itinerary names Tongo Point separately and reports green and hawksbill turtles, razorfish and reef fish. These are attributed wildlife reports, not guaranteed encounters or evidence of a current sighting. Existing marine-life records retain their own source details.

Plan the actual route

Neptune lists 5–18 metres as an interesting-depth band and describes boat access. This band does not establish the complete depth range. Its comment about little current applies around the caves; it should not be generalized to the entire dive or every tide.

Nearby operator names are not automatically interchangeable: Emerald Green lists Tongo Sanctuary and Tongo Bay separately. Confirm which route your operator means rather than transferring bay conditions to this point. This partial guide does not establish cave access, present-day restrictions or guaranteed conditions.

Small subjects and the reef above the wall

Neptune’s fuller Tongo account associates small crustaceans and seahorses with the purple fans, particularly during its late-afternoon outings. It also describes sponges and gorgonians around the small openings, alongside hard and soft corals. These are places and subjects reported by that operator, not a mapped cave route. The operator highlights electric clams and flame fire shells, retaining those common names rather than identifying scientific species. Its wildlife list does not provide individual sighting dates.

The PADI directory’s Tongo Point Marine Sanctuary entry, credited to Cebu Fun Divers, adds a coral-covered reef top above the drop-off. Its account names ghost pipefish, triggerfish, frogfish, scorpionfish, batfish and sweetlips, as well as green and hawksbill turtles. This is an operator-contributed description hosted by PADI, not an independent PADI survey. The listing’s possible eagle-ray and whale-shark encounters should remain possibilities rather than expected features of a booking. It supplies no observation dates or encounter statistics with which to assess those chances.

Historical sanctuary context

The Coastal Resource Management Project’s 2004 directory records local laws reactivating a marine sanctuary in Tongo. Its Moalboal entry lists Tongo separately from Saavedra, Basdiot and Pescador Island. This gives the sanctuary name a documented management history beyond dive advertising. The directory does not establish today’s boundaries, enforcement, charges or permission to enter caves. Its historical information should not be substituted for current local access advice, nor should the nearby Saavedra sanctuary’s separate community-management details be attributed to Tongo.
