White Slave

A dive wrapped in Bonaire's hardest history: ten small white huts that once sheltered enslaved salt workers mark the entry, with the white obelisk that guided salt ships still standing watch. Underwater, a sand shelf dotted with garden eels and hunting rays gives way — a longer-than-usual swim out — to a sloping reef dense with sponges and soft coral, the northern stretch noticeably lusher. Sitting on a prominent point of the southwest coast, the site catches more water movement than its neighbours, and the entry over loose coral rubble needs careful footing. A thoughtful, quieter dive that rewards respect above and below the waterline.
