About This Dive Site

A reef route between Dungon Bay and West Escarceo

Action Divers describes Wreck Point as a sloping reef with hard corals between Dungon Bay and West Escarceo. Despite the name, that description does not establish which wreck remains a visitor will see.

The depth references conflict

The same Action Divers page lists 27 m in its heading and 18 m in its description. La Laguna Beach Club lists Wreck Point at 15 m and names Dungon Wall separately. These numbers should not be combined into a settled depth range.

Before arranging a dive

Ask the operator which reef section or wreck feature is intended, the planned depth, and the experience needed for the conditions. Confirm whether the itinerary includes Dungon Wall rather than assuming the names describe an identical dive. Current conditions, precise entry location and wildlife encounter rates remain unverified.

Why it is called Wreck Point

Casalay Dive Resort's site list, captured in October 2026, says a shipwreck that sank in a typhoon years ago lies just before Escarceo with its highest point a metre below the surface, that big rocks and table corals lead down to about 15 m, and labels the dive beginner level at 15 to 20 m. PADI's entry, which carries no contributing member credit, tells of a large ship that sank in a typhoon many years ago, still visible from the surface and resting in only a metre of water; the same sentences appear under a 5 to 18 m heading on Angelyn's Dive Resort's site list, so the PADI text and Angelyn's page are one lineage. Dive Mindoro's guide, last modified in November 2025, describes freighter remains positioned on rocks at the surface with exposed ribs visible at low tide.

The reef below the wreck

Angelyn's and PADI describe majestic table corals in the shallow parts of the bay, with spectacled hawkfish, neon damselfish, anthias and blue-green chromis hovering over the reef and the occasional huge brain coral, and call it an easy dive where the currents can get strong. Casalay's sightings list matches: hard corals, table corals, spectacled hawkfish, neon damselfish, anthias and blue-green chromis. Garden of Eden Dive Resort's page numbers Wreck Point 17, places it about 12 minutes east of Sabang Beach, and gives an average depth of 13 m and a maximum of 20 m, mostly calm conditions with moderate current that can get rough, a sloping reef with purple gorgonians and plenty of small fish, and coral blocks with nudibranchs in the 5 to 10 m range.

A deeper feature in one account

Dive Mindoro alone describes two hulls of a sunken sailing catamaran at 28 m below the freighter remains, with a wall of hard and soft corals and a large clam rooted at one end, and says the point serves as a jump-off for drift dives towards Hole in the Wall during peak flood tides. Casalay describes an old sailing catamaran at about 28 m under its separate Dungon Wall entry, so whether the two pages describe the same hulls from different starting points is not settled here. Capt'n Gregg's chart gives 15 to 20 m, Open Water level and mild to variable current, and its highlights of shallow wreck, table corals, hawkfish and damselfish match the accounts above.
