1000 Steps

About This Dive Site
Bonaire's most photographed dive entry: a limestone staircase — about 67 steps, not a thousand, though they earn the name hauling tanks back up — drops from the coastal road to a white coral-rubble beach. Underwater, a shallow coral garden slopes to a drop-off plunging past 30 m, with dense star-coral stands rising like towers from the terrace. Turtles are the headline act — hawksbills graze here with unusual reliability — joined by tarpon, trumpetfish and passing eagle rays. Mild current and big visibility make it an easy, spectacular dive; the only workout is topside.
