Seamount · Pinnacle · Manta-cleaning-station

Prepare for an exhilarating dive at Blue Magic, one of Raja Ampat's most iconic and celebrated dive sites. Located in the nutrient-rich waters of the Dampier Strait, this submerged seamount promises an unforgettable encounter with the ocean's most majestic creatures and vibrant pelagic action.
Blue Magic is a pinnacle rising from the deep, with its reef top just a few meters below the surface. This unique topography, combined with the powerful currents of the Dampier Strait, creates a magnet for an astonishing array of marine life. Divers will find themselves in a dynamic environment where the action is constant and thrilling. We recommend a negative entry and being prepared to use a reef hook to secure your position and observe the spectacle unfolding around you. Timing your dive with the tides is crucial for the best experience.
The name "Blue Magic" perfectly describes the enchanting encounters awaiting divers here. This dive site is renowned as a reliable cleaning station for both the graceful Reef Manta Ray (Mobula alfredi) and the colossal Giant Oceanic Manta Ray (Mobula birostris). Divers often witness these magnificent creatures circling elegantly as smaller fish perform their cleaning duties.
Beyond the mantas, the pelagic action is spectacular. You can encounter massive schools of Giant Trevally (Caranx ignobilis), often forming impressive "tornadoes" of fish, alongside swirling schools of Chevron Barracuda (Sphyraena qenie). Keep an eye out for powerful predators like Dogtooth Tuna (Gymnosarda unicolor), Spanish Mackerel, and various species of jacks. Grey Reef Sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), along with blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, are frequently seen patrolling the deeper sections and reef edges.
While the focus is often on the big stuff, the pinnacle itself hosts a vibrant and healthy coral ecosystem, with a variety of soft and hard corals, and gorgonian sea fans. Patient divers exploring the reef flanks may be rewarded with macro delights, including the elusive Pygmy Seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti), nudibranchs, crabs, and other fascinating critters.
While Blue Magic offers incredible diving year-round, the peak manta season in Raja Ampat generally runs from October/November to April/May, with December to March being particularly strong for oceanic manta sightings. During these months, increased plankton blooms attract the mantas, although this can sometimes lead to slightly reduced visibility.
